Dubbed "Q" for his insatiable curiosity and knack for asking funny, original questions, 14-year-old Quade Kelley is jumping into the Volleyball world of San Diego Mojo. The women’s team is San Diego’s newest addition to professional sports and a part of the Pro Volleyball Federation, the premier professional league in North America. The first season will begin in January 2024.
From 2020 to 2023, Quade inspired readers as a Kid Reporter for Scholastic Kids Press, a distinguished journalism program under the world's largest publisher of children's books. His journey as a youth journalist soared, featuring interviews with luminaries across science, history, entertainment, sports, arts, and literature. His broadcast segments were program record-breakers, captivating young audiences.
"It's incredible to witness the rise of women's professional sports and volleyball, seeing talented female athletes receiving the opportunities and recognition they truly deserve," said Quade Kelley. “Modern athletic development is impressive to witness. Each player, Coach Tayyiba, GM Jeremy Waller, President Billy Johnson, and Owner Kerri Walsh-Jennings- everyone embodies remarkable leadership, power, humility, dedication, and a champion's mindset. It's inspiring, something to cheer for and emulate."
"This opportunity feels like a dream. Combining my love for sports with storytelling that celebrates life and brings joy to the San Diego community is beyond exciting," said Quade. "I just want kids in San Diego to be a part of the Mojo magic."
Kids will be able to view SD mojo stories as a part of a new segment called Q Reports: Ace interviews and youth perspectives from the SD sideline.
The Pro Volleyball Federation's plays in a REAL league format. The electrifying vibe of San Diego Mojo hits SDSU’s Viejas Arena on Friday, February 23, for their first home game. For those eager to catch the action, ticket details are available at https://sandiegomojovb.com/.
